Haze Borden is the deuteragonist of the series Black Dogs.
Appearance[]
She is a blond girl with long hair. Her casual outfit consists of a pink T-shirt that has a small black puppy was printed on her shirt with “Good Boy” just below it in teal text and a running short. When she first appeared, her hair was tied back while wearing a formal dress for the occasion.
Biography[]
Haze is the daughter of Max Borden, the Governor of Nebraska. She was helping her father in a political campaign, where she met John Matthews and became interested in him at their first interaction in the manor hall. Although John was little bit confused and acting uncertain, she still tried to pressure him into voting for her father, saying that the environment bill will be something that everyone can benefit from. At the end of their conversation, she also gave away the fact that she and her campaign crew will stay here for 3 days to John before walk to other people. A couple days later, John and Sylvia accidently unleash the STYX hound. Haze kills herself and is taken to the facility by Cleo Dahmer. She and John undergo a test of their teamwork multiple times until they succeed. Cleo Dahmer explains that John's family has been killed by the hound and that the two have been in the facility for years. She trains them to break the patterns the STYX hound creates. She sends them to the manor where they get caught in the pattern. They relive the days before the STYX hound attacks with multiple changes. After their first interaction John spots Haze burying a black canister with a shovel outside of the manor. When she noticed John was waving to her, she did not respond, and walked away from him. The next day, she met John and started to ask him about the bill S.788. And to her surprise, John actually read and understand about the bill. John was talking to her in the hallway and she asks John to give her the clock he was holding which he agrees to do it. She also lets him know her room and what he was thinking. She admitted to John that she is studying paranormal activities (ghost detective). Suddenly she walks up to John and whispers to him, "You'll rot here, you can be conscious without breaking it." before taking his hand to write something and slam it against the wall, doing a weird dance. She said to him that she wants to make it up for the whole incident that she acted weirdly in front John Matthews, hurt him in the process and offered him to spend time after work in her room.
A while later John spotted Haze, he rushed Sylvia (His cousin/ co-worker) to elevator and make excuse to be alone instead of hanging out with other employees after work. He was invited to Haze Borden's room and chatting with her while waiting for a ghost to appear. Then, the blonde girl (Haze) happily asked him to draw a dragon eating a lion tattoo on her hand. During their conversation, she revealed to him how she lied to other people about she had leukemia in hope to attract attention. She became obsessed to other's notice, due to the fact that when she was a kid, everyone she met was so afraid of her because of her status as a governor's daughter. She was genuinely sad about what she lied to people in the past, although John didn't get upset about it, she still feel a sense of guilty. Haze told him that she likes him because he didn't try to avoid her like everyone else did. She also draws a jellyfish tattoo for John when they were her room. She soon realizes that John was a "pattern" before left him to be alone in her room. From John perspective, Haze's room was filled with numerous notes hanging on walls link with strings, the context of these notes state about a pattern, linking event to event, situation and how to solve the cycle is happening in the manor.
The first turning point of the story is when the day repeat like yesterday, although the main protagonist, John Matthews was oblivious to it, Haze seems to be the only who noticed how everything was in a loop, through her behavior and action became quicker and more aggressive. This was clearly shown when she asks him if he remember yesterday and at her room, Haze said different compared to the last loop while John was still repeating the same dialogue despite different conversation's context create by Haze. To a point that Haze acknowledges this "pattern" by yelling "shut up" to him when response and told him that she was talking to a tape recorder.
By the third time, she starts to get more upset, she angrily walks to John repeat the same thing as she usually in the hallway. She was swearing to him, she kissed his face with force in desperation to woke him up from trapping in the pattern. To her relief, he finally realizes that they already met yesterday. She stated that his name was Ell Dahmer. Although John Matthews was panicked, afraid that he may accidentally break a pattern which can lead to all the minions of the Styx Hound dog to kill them, she told him to repeat what he was doing while she plans their way out of here.
A while later, she realized that John had broke a pattern so she uses a shovel hack Sylvia to pieces before grabbing his hand to get the black canister that contained film which also the key to the Styx Hound's weakness and to solve every horrible, unnatural that was happening in the manor. During their escape from the Styx Hound, she realizes that she has been stuck in the "pattern" for two years, she was uncertain whether they have managed to break the pattern completely or not because she remembers all the details of how everything play out when they were running to the manor's basement. Realize that they couldn't outrun the Hound, she told John that they should split up in the case the dog chooses one of them to chase, to give the escaper more time to reach their destination. This time the dog chose her, she quickly makes a sincere apology to John about everything before threw the black canister to him and sacrifice herself.
